UUM ONLINE: 20 June 2017 - The appointment of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, as Deputy Director-General of Higher Education Malaysia (TKPPTM) proves that Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has in its service a large pool of exceptional talent and expertise that can be of inestimable value to the nation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that the appointment offered the best opportunity for Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi to showcase his capabilities and leadership qualities that he had acquired and honed throughout his 25-year service at UUM.
"This appointment is an honour bestowed upon UUM and a recognition accorded to its capacity to contribute crucial expertise at the ministerial level,” said the Vice-Chancellor at a special ceremony, held at EDC Hotels and Resorts yesterday, to congratulate Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail and celebrate his two-year appointment to the post of Deputy Director-General of Higher Education Malaysia.
The Vice-Chancellor said further that the appointment was also the first time that an individual from a non-research university had been appointed to the position and expressed his hope that Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi would provide valuable input concerning the issues and challenges faced by public universities, which had, thus far, received scant attention from the Ministry, so as to enable them to obtain the attention they needed to develop apace.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi expressed his sincere gratitude to UUM and to the Vice-Chancellor, in particular, for having given him the opportunity and the trust to serve as leader at various levels during the latter years of his long service at UUM.
He also extended his thanks to all those who had given him their staunch support and commitment during his 23-month tenure as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).
Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi began his career at UUM in 1992 as a tutor and has held various important positions over the years including that of Dean of Research and Innovation, College of Business, UUM (2009-2011); Dean of the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, UUM (2011-2015), and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) (2015-2017).
Also present at the ceremony were members of the University Management Committee, Deans of the various Schools, Heads of Centres of Authority, and senior UUM officers.
