UUM RESEARCHERS REPRESENT MALAYSIA AT THE ASEAN-JAPAN FORUM, THE PHILIPPINES AND UNESCO EMERITUS DIALOGUE, INDIA

UUM ONLINE: A group of UUM researchers, led by Prof. Dr. Norshuhada Shiratuddin, was selected to represent Malaysia at the Asean-Japan Forum in the Philippines and the UNESCO Emeritus Dialogue in India.

The research team, which consists of Prof. Dr. Shahizan Hassan, Prof. Dr. Mohd Azizudin Mohd Sani, Dr. Mohd Khairie Ahmad, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sulastry Yurni and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kartini Aboo Talib from UKM, presented a Long Term Grant Scheme (LRGS) study on the Media and Youth in Marginalised Community.

The research findings paved the way for the researchers to attend the Asean-Japan, “Media and Information Literacy: Cyber Wellness for the Youth” in Manila, Philippines on 20-21March 2018.

Prof. Dr. Norshuhada explained that, the forum focused on the issues and best practices in cyberspace as well as the implications for youth in the present day.

"The paper entitled the “Internet and Media Utilisation among the Youth in Malaysia: Trends, Issues and Solutions” drew attention to the various strategic initiatives undertaken by the Malaysian government to ensure that youth in the country were given the opportunity to become positively engaged with the cutting-edge media technology.

"The findings of this research study received full sponsorship from UNESCO and will be presented at the UNESCO Emeritus Dialogue at the 26th Asian Media Information and Communication Center on 6-7 June  in Karnataka, India," said Prof. Dr. Norshuhada.

Notable personalities at the dialogue include the CEO and Executive Editor of Rappler, Maria Ressa; COO of Outcome Health and Fellow of Harvard Uni (CIO of USA), Vivek Kundra; UNESCO Advisor for Communication and Information South Asia, Al-Amin Yusuph; President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, Sachin Piloy and the AMIC d’Honneur Chairman, Dr. Ang Peng Hwa.

Prof. Dr. Norshuhada explained that members of her team and UUM were deeply honoured and grateful to the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia for choosing their research papers to represent the country.

PENYELIDIK UUM TERPILIH WAKIL NEGARA KE ASEAN-JAPAN FORUM, FILIPINA DAN UNESCO EMERITUS DIALOGUE, INDIA

UUM ONLINE: Sekumpulan penyelidik UUM diketuai Prof Dr Norshuhada Shiratuddin dipilih mewakili negara ke Forum Asean-Japan di Filipina dan UNESCO Emeritus Dialogue di India.

Pasukan penyelidik tersebut yang disertai Prof Dr Shahizan Hassan, Prof Dr Mohd Azizudin Mohd Sani, Dr Mohd Khairie Ahmad, Prof Madya Dr Sulastry Yurni dan Prof Madya Dr Kartini Aboo Talib dari UKM itu telah membentangkan kajian geran LRGS dalam skop Media dan Belia Terpinggir.

Hasil kajian itu membolehkan pasukan penyelidik ke Forum Asean-Japan, “Media and Information Literacy: Cyber Wellness for the Youth” di Manila, Filipina pada  20-21 Mac lalu.

Prof Dr Norshuhada berkata, forum tersebut memberi tumpuan kepada isu penggunaan ruang siber dan implikasi ke atas belia masa kini.

Menurutnya, isu kesejahteraan dan kesihatan ditekankan agar generasi masa hadapan peka kepada implikasi negatif penggunaan ruang siber yang berlebihan.

memuatkan pelbagai inisiatif utama yang dilakukan kerajaan Malaysia bagi memastikan belia di negara ini diberi peluang untuk berpartisipasi secara positif melalui teknologi media terkini.

“Seterusnya, hasil kajian ini telah terpilih dengan tajaan penuh UNESCO untuk ke sesi UNESCO Emeritus Dialogue di Persidangan ke 26, Asian Media Information and Communication Centre pada 6 dan 7 Jun depan di Karnataka, India,” katanya.
