UUM ONLINE: The recent appointments and restructuring at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have brought about a fresh approach to driving the university towards greater success and improved organisation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan announced that a total of 228 members of staff have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring UUM’s continuous success.
"With the appointment of the second phase, the organisational structure of UUM is now complete. It is now our responsibility to fulfil the trust given to us and ensure that UUM progresses rapidly and achieves excellence," he said.
According to him for the year 2024, UUM has formed its legal organisational structure after it acquired endorsement from the University Management Board (LPU) on 20 December 2023.
"The last time UUM's organisational structure received endorsement from LPU was in 2013. Hence, I am optimistic that this revamped structure will propel the university towards progress and efficiency.
"In total, 13 centres of authority have been rebranded and two new departments have been created, namely the Zakat and Waqf Centre and the Student Entrepreneurship Centre," he said at the second session of the Presentation of Appointment Letters to the Key Office Bearers for the Year 2024 ceremony, which took place at UUM-EDC on Monday.
Among the centres of authority that were rebranded are the Academic Development and Excellence Division (AEDU) to the Centre for Policy Planning and Academic Excellence (CAEP); the Research & Innovation Management Centre (RIMC) to the Research Management Centre (RMC).
Meanwhile, the Institute for Management and Business Research (IMBRe) has been renamed the Management and Leadership Case Study Centre, and the Development and Maintenance Department (JPP) has been renamed the Infrastructure Development and Management Department (JPPI).
Prof. Dr Mohd. Foad also called on the denizens of UUM, especially the key office bearers, to collaborate in a harmonious ecosystem. He emphasised the importance of avoiding working in isolation and focusing on prioritisation using the Matrix Time Management method.
In addition, he mentioned that various action plans had been outlined. For instance, one such plan involves enhancing UUM’s reputation at both the national and international levels, ultimately securing UUM’s position in SETARA, MYMOHES, and MYRA with a five-star rating.
"At the international level, our goal is to achieve the Triple Crown of accreditation, which includes AACSB, AMBA, and E-QUIS. Additionally, we must strive to become the number one top business school in Malaysia.
"With regard to the approach to transforming the teaching and learning system in order to cultivate talent that is adaptable to future needs, a total of 17 ODL (open and distance learning) programmes will begin in 2024, alongside micro credential courses and MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) offerings.
"In order to guarantee long-term financial sustainability, we will further increase zakat, wakaf, and endowment contributions. We aim to raise a total of RM10 million for the new endowment by 2024 and anticipate the assistance of the officials in attaining this goal," he added.
