UUM ONLINE: Bandar Enstek - In a ground breaking collaboration, esteemed individuals in higher education joined forces to develop an innovative instructional leadership module for Akept 2024/2025. The modules covered a wide range of areas, including learning and teaching in higher education, understanding and supporting learners, curriculum development, disruptive digital learning, assessment methodologies, problem-based learning, and SoTL. These modules were designed to equip future master trainers with the necessary skills to lead change.
The development of these modules involved the involvement of eleven experts from the School of Education, School of Multimedia Technology & Communication, and Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, UUM along with contributors from USM, UNITEN, UPM, UTM, UKM, UTeM, UNIMAS, USIM, UPSI, UMPSA, Academy of Professors Malaysia, UiTM, and Sultan Qaboos University.
The workshop, which took place over two days from 28 to 30 January 2024 at AKEPT in Bandar Enstek, focused on creating customised modules for master trainers and involved in-depth discussions. Notably, the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, graced the occasion on 29 January to show support for the modules and emphasise the government's commitment to advancing the quality of higher education.
Endorsed by the Minister, the newly developed modules, which will serve as the cornerstone of a training programme, are set to begin in May 2024. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education's aspirations to produce skilled trainers who can drive significant changes in Malaysia’s education system. Recognising the exceptional opportunity brought by the appointment of Prof. Dr Harshita Aini Haroon as the new director of AKEPT, Prof. Dr Rosna Awang Hashim, as the project leader underscored the significance of this opportunity to rejuvenate efforts in developing influential educational leaders in higher education. This was highlighted during the AKEPT ToT 2.0. The initiative aims to develop change leaders who possess the ability to guide the transformation of learning and teaching within their respective institutions.
Adding a crucial perspective to the discourse, Prof. Dr Fauziah Abdul Rahim from the School of Education highlighted the need for meticulous consideration of assessment practices. According to her, a thoughtful approach to assessment is essential to charting the trajectory of learning meaningfully. Furthermore, she emphasised the importance of incorporating alternative assessment methods as a crucial aspect of adapting to the evolving landscape of higher education teaching and learning.
Akept 2024 stands as a testament to the dedication and teamwork displayed by academic leaders from various disciplines. This initiative has received a significant endorsement from the minister, highlighting its importance and potential to impact the future of education in Malaysia positively.
